Decide what qualifies

Set a rule for unplanned expenses. A necessary repair or loss of income may qualify. A predictable annual bill belongs in your regular plan.

Use it when needed

Using the reserve for its intended purpose is part of the plan. Afterward, update the balance and choose a manageable refill amount.

Make the refill concrete

Example: if the reserve is $600 below your chosen target, saving $100 a month would close the gap in six months, before interest or further withdrawals.

Review bills and spending before setting an automatic transfer so it fits the money actually available.

In UntilFire, add the expense in Money → Transactions and check the balance in Net Worth. Then review Emergency savings in Plan → Contributions.
